SAM SHEPARD’S “TRUE WEST”COMES TO

THE GHENT PLAYHOUSE STAGE

The Ghent Playhouse will present Sam Shepard’s dark comedy,

True West from Friday, May 19 through Sunday, June 4 with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.

Shepard’s play has become a well-established contemporary masterpiece and the Ghent Playhouse is excited to be staging it.

True West made its Broadway debut in 2000.  The Ghent Playhouse production is directed by Patrick White and will introduce Nathaniel Drake to its stage, as Lee the drifter.  Kevin Kilb, who was last seen in the Playhouse’s production of The 39 Steps, will play Austin, the yuppie screenwriter.  Rounding out the cast is newcomer Rob Weber as the Hollywood Producer and Stephanie Sloane as the brothers’ mother who returns after eleven years, having last appeared in the Playhouse’s production of The Oldest Profession

True West takes place at the California desert home of Austin and Lee’s mother, where the two brothers are reunited after five years.  When Lee’s pitch of a screenplay idea is accepted by a film producer over the script that Austin has long been developing, the play explodes in verbal and physical violence, as the two fight for possession and control.

The show is produced by Ghent Playhouse President, Kelly Mackerer, with set design by Sam Reilly, lighting design by Isabel Filkins and costume design by Joanne Maurer.

Tickets are $20 each, $17 for Members of the Playhouse and $10 for Students with ID.  Tickets may be reserved by calling 1-800-838-3006 or going to the website at www.ghentplayhouse.org.

Be sure to reserve your tickets early, especially for the Sunday matinees!
